-Obama’s new administration can make the United States the World’s Green Leader- by Newsweek

volkan

February 23rd, 2009

President Obama ordered 17,000 additional Marines and Army troops for his war on Afghanistan. Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, is making a trip to Russia to discuss supply routes as well as a visiting Europe to plead for their troops. The Pentagon has asked to borrow $149 billion for combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan for this year, which is $13 billion higher than the estimated total a few months ago since Gates did not take Afghanistan into account.

This will be the initial post after an historic election, as it should rightfully be known as an historic, considering this couldn’t possibly have been predicted 40 years ago. Barack Obama seems to be very committed in finding energy independence as well as emphasizing math and science in our educational systems, in a time where the current financial mess is not his fault but by the decisions made in the past eight years. Despite the election, it is quite galling how some things are left unanswered and not even questioned at the this point. This is not because people in this country are dim, yet a large part has to do with how people are left out in knowing particular information. Now that a week has past since his inauguration and we know his rhetoric about the war and what not, let’s glance at the evidence and selections he has made.
The first appointment Obama has made in the post-election was for his chief of staff, which is quite interesting just how a few people recognize who he is. He is Rahm Emanuel, a strong supporter of the war in Iraq and an investment banker who has received a fragment of some of the bailout on Wall Street. He is allies with Rob Blagojevich and predictably has been involved in financial frauds. Rahm Emanuel is a fierce partisan of Israel and will push Obama to insure the safety the country, which at this point leads into my next line of reasoning.
Seemingly it is quite interesting how this whole Gaza conflict environs the Obama administration, considering Israel declared a “ceasefire” hours before the inauguration to outlaw any chance of Obama commenting on the crisis. Yet a couple of hours ago Israel has started fighting again into the border and all we get is a response from Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, saying that the US supports “Israel’s right to self-defense.” This statement would baffle me and as well as many others I presume, considering Israel is the one illegally occupying a territory and calling for a right of self-defense if it is attacked.
We then have the Secretary of Defense, yet as we abide by this “change” theme, is the same person that served in the previous administration, Robert Gates. We now have the chief problems coming up elsewhere, Afghanistan and Pakistan. One thing I want to mention at this point is Obama’s new White House website, which if you look at it, does not even have Afghanistan and Pakistan listed as an issue, which is rather serious. There was a conflict in Pakistan where 600 Afghan rebels attacked a camp, nevertheless, not one major news source had covered it nor has the White House commented.
We then have a few executive orders signed by the president ordering to close down Guantanamo Bay and to outlaw torture, which was reported in the news, as I am sure people have heard or read about this at some point in some time. However, what is not reported was how the president can deviate himself from his own rules, under a national-security crisis. This was implied under question that was answered from one of the White House counsels, Gregory Craig. It is just an implication, so we are going to have to wait for actions which are taken in the future under the new administration to see if he actually ignores his own rules.

To start off, I would like to congratulate Barack Obama on winning the election. I was just entering the city at the time when they pronounced his triumph and it was some spectacle to see. If you weren’t there, people were just delighted with elation. I was still in astonishment after the election and a lil time after that as well, not because of who won the election but what it meant to civil liberties. There were countless numbers of martyrs during the Civil Rights Movements who died for beliefs, going through segregation, seeing loved-ones die in churches, leading marches in Selma, 1968 Olympics, all just to try to get their right to vote and to attain other civil liberties as well. There are so many people that deserved to have seen this election: Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Malcom X. That is why, for me at least, it was so vivid and vibrant…

little granny obama and well, obama.

little granny obama and well, obama.

Barack Obama’s gradmother, Madelyn Dunham, died quietly in her Hawaii home a little before midnight on Sunday. According to Barack and his sister Maya Soetoro-Ng, she was a very vital part of their family and was what I guess some might call the glue that held everything together. I give my sympathy to the family and all those her who knew her. Question, does anyone know what kind of cancer it was? I don’t recall reading it.. I’d appreciate it if someone who knows could tell me.  :)

Obama and his aforementioned sister issued a joint statement on the loss which can be read by clicking HERE.
McCain offered his condolences and his statement can also be found on the above link.

Lord be with them and I hope things go the way they should go at the voting booths and Obama wins and stuff.

After they tried to persuade people that Obama was not really Barack Obama, now the conservatives are doing anything they can to try to alter the outcome of this election. Recently the term “socialist” and “communist” have been heaved at Obama, along with the crude nuances the Republicans will hope scare the masses considering the events of the 20th century (The Nazis considered themselves as National Socialists, as well as the Bolsheviks who were part of the Soviet Socialist Republics). What people might not be acquainted of, is that John McCain held the same views, before changing to try to forgather some votes. Here is a clip back in 2000, which is just about adjacent with the clip Obama had with Joe the Plummer, enjoy….

What is troublesome is that when everyone is watching CNN or FOX or any of the other television sources, is that a majority of the people in this country(something like 90%) ACTUALLY believe Russia attacked Georgia initially. This of course further promotes the illusion of separatism between Russia and the U.S to the public, making this “socialist” smear partially compelling.

Some recommended reading just out of the NYU Press is SOCIETY WITHOUT GOD by Phil Zuckerman. Zuckerman investigates and interviews people from the Scandinavian countries as they are considered the most fulfilled while being compared to the other nations in the world. He is trying to direct readers on what the least religious societies could forewarn us, as they are considered the healthiest, as indicated by life expectancy, adult literacy, per capita income, educational attainment, gender equality, homicide rate, and infant morality.

For any football fans… David Beckham is leaving the United States to go play in Italy it seems with A.C Milan. But don’t worry! It’s just a loan contract which means he will come back at some point in time. I was also watching CNN the other day and they showed the world’s oldest person. She was in her 140′s living in Africa and was still walking and talking and all that. This of course, is granting the fact that she is genuinely that ancient and her birth certificate is accurate, considering some people these days are having adversities with their own birth certificates…However, whatever the scenario is, she said her longevity was the result of “organic foods, spinach, and coca-cola.”

I would also take this time to thank all of our readers for making this blog one of the foremost on WordPress. Thanks ya’ll

So last week Tuesday was the great debate and I got to chill with some pretty swell ass dudes during it. I had been invited to this club called Taj for a debate party sponsored and run by a website called GlobalGrind.com. It was Global Grind’s anniversary and they wanted to make it count. I was down to hang out, I mean I had nothing else to do. On my way there, I get a call from WENN, a network through which I am syndicated, and he wants me to photograph the events’ red carpet. Cool, I was going anyway, I didn’t mind. Oh yeah, I had no idea there would be a red carpet. I get there and a long story short, some celebs show up.

Russell Simmons seems to be a very nice guy although he seems to be a little nervous in front of TV cameras. And oddly enough he was even more nervous in front of the photographers. He started to stutter, I’m guessing from nervousness. I got a shot or two out of him, nothing too cool though.

Cedric the Entertainer was awesome and pretty funny. His voice is so distinctive that it just causes people to laugh. I think. He was saying some pretty funny stuff about McCain and well it made me laugh. He also grabbed that girl Aubrey O’Day and they started “playing” it was cute I guess.

Naughty By Nature showed up and I thought that the shorter guy was Mike Tyson…haha, the photographers laughed at me.

About Aubrey O’Day, from Danity Kane, she is a very nice girl. It was nice talking to her and stuff. She was pretty down to earth and much easier to be around than I had expected. Alot of the photographers were going crazy over her and I stuff, it was pretty funny hearing them yell things at her to gain her attention. All I had to say was “smile over here please” once and she gave me her full attention the whole time. Sometimes, I’m magical.

Dawn Richards, another girl from Danity Kane, was on the red carpet as well and I have pretty much nothing to say about her. I mean no disrespect, she was just kinda boring and tired on the carpet. I cute girl, yes, but she seemed drained. And her publicist or manger person kept shouting about something being a “political thing” it was odd.

Ludacris was obviously my favorite of the male celebrities. He is so calm and collected, it’s how I would like to be when I am older. He kept his cool through all the screaming idiots on the press line and stated that he wanted to watch the debate. He kept saying that. Hahaha. I felt the same way at that point though.

Malinda Williams was definitely my favorite female there. She is so nice. I mean nice as hell. She has great skin and just a very peaceful demeanor. She was there with her husband, D-Nice, who was actually selecting the tunes for after the debate. Malinda and I talked for a bit inside where I let her know how awesome I thought she was and how much she was like I had imagined. She thanked me and asked my name and stuff.

Yaslene from America’s Next Top Model was there and a few more people that I don’t feel like talking about.

Here are some photos:

The night ended well. Sorry if this post is boring, I’m kinda tired.

At some point in my day I take some time and check Youtube and see what the most viewed videos are to see if I have missed anything. Especially this one….

Nevertheless, on a serious note, I am convinced that people have come across Colin Powell’s video with Meet The Press, approving Obama and notifying people that he is deeply troubled by how his party is dispersing smears that Obama is a Muslim (10% of the electorate believe which he is). Soon after he would then talk about how there was nothing iniquitous about being Muslim and he gave a case in point of a Muslim-American giving his life for the country in the Iraq War.

The photo he was referring to was a picture in the New Yorker which was taken by Platon. Sadly, people fall short to comprehend that being “Arab” and “Muslim” are two different sets of portrayals that do not essentially have to be indistinguishable. There are a considerable amount of Christian Arabs in the Middle East, who still refer to their deity as “Allah”, since it is only a matter of the language that they use.

I just found this out and I am seriously stunned. Like wtf. This is really odd. I don’t even know what to say about this. He is survived by his wife, daughter and grandchild. This is a great loss to the world of comedy, I mean come on, Estelle Getty, George Carlin, now Bernie Mac??

I wonder if the Obama camp will issue a statement this week after pretty much condemning him a few weeks earlier for using the “salty” language he is known for. This all happened at a Chicago fundraiser for the Presidential nominee and I don’t think it was that big of a deal at all. Here is one thing he said..

“I’m proud of him because politics is dirty, especially with Republicans,” he said. “People like rumors. They are going to say things like, you know, ‘You was in the club with Lil’ Kim and you and Kanye West got in a fist fight.’ “

Haha, so I cam across this on Photoshelter and it made me laugh. Hahaha. Apparently Harper’s Bazaar thought this was an amazing idea, and I agree. Haha! They got some dude and Tyra Banks to role play as the Obamas in their September issue and it looks awesome. I don’t care what anyone says, Tyra is hot as hell and she can do whatever the hell she wants to do and def does what she wants better than those out their constantly ridiculing her. The two (Banks and model dude) look nothing like Michelle and Barack themselves, but a point is definitely made, if you’re gonna be President and First Lady, why not also be FASHION! Haha. I love saying things like “FASHION” and “CATWALK” aloud. It’s hilarious. People immediately become uncomfortable and awkward! And sometimes they RUN a little. hahaha. Sometimes I say it loudly while walking around Bedford Avenue/Williamsburg and all the “hip”-sters get all self conscious and shit and start to fix their unwashed hair and wipe their shiny faces..uber funny. Anyway, I have gone on a huge tangent.

Here are some pictures:

According to the magazine caption, its Tyra Banks.
