I meant to do a post on Smith Westerns a long time, but like a dummy I got caught up in other crap — these things happen. Anyway, I fucking love these guys. They make the kinda music that makes you feel like you’re at a house party and nothing else in the world matters but you, the space and time you’re in and the people there that you are sharing it with. Their song “Weekend” off the forthcoming album Dye It Blonde is a beautifully crafted piece of work that is catchy as hell. I have been humming and whistling the tune all day and night. I obviously can’t get it out of my head, it’s 5:05AM and I’m still thinking about it and writing about it right now. But, because it’s so awesome I’m willing to stay up and give credit where it’s due. These guys are signed to Fat Possum Records and are going on tour with MGMT and Yuck (and headlining their own shit!). SO DOPE. And they have 4 dates in NY in mid-January, the dates of the tour are at the bottom.

Anyway, this post is supposed to be about the video so hear goes. The video is simple and direct and well shot (directed by Focus Creeps) and it reminds me of summers with my friends junior and senior year in high school. There are Slurpees, trips to the mall, walks thru the woods and choppin’ down trees, cuttin’ up and just doing just exactly what you want to do. I tell you, this video will make you wish you were 18 again. enjoy it guys (and girls) yall.

I remember that I was heading to a Cat Power show when I took this.

A good friend of mine, Wesley, sent me a link recently and I finally decided to investigate it tonight and oh man, hilarious. It was a USA Today article about Burger King venture into the fragrance industry. Haha. I mean, that in itself isn’t nearly as funny as it is just completely ridiculous, but what is funny as fuck is my immediate thought after reading the “news”.

All I could think about was what if all the spicy smelling hipsters of the ‘burg started to sport this new fragrance appropriately titled FLAME?  Haha. Oh man. That would be soo dope and soo fuckin’ funny and did I mention helpful–all at the same time!

an answer to prayers.

Instead of leaving the hyped and all too often wack “loft” parties smelling like just onions,  the salt-free, yet flavorful Mrs. Dash, or a host of other “body odors”, you could smell like meat too! And not pork, for all you believers out there, I’m talkin’ BEEF!

The combination of Burger King’s new beefy fragrance and the hipsters naturally and not to mention abundantly produced body spices could be a match made in heaven. I mean think about it. Why smell like all the spices that could be added to a delicious burger, when you can smell like a burger seasoned with all the fun, sweat, and spices of all the unbathe hipsters at the party! I think this one is a no brainer.

Thank you Burger King, in a dwindling economy you have become the light at the end of the tunnel.
