This past Wednesday the much hyped acts, Sun Airway and Twin Shadow, played to a sold out show at Johnny Brenda’s. Hometown heroes, Sun Airway, had a lot to prove, as this was their first performance in philly since the official release of their debut LP, Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier, in late October. And they certainly did not disappoint. Their performance was somehow effortless and energetic, and they had some of the most amazing video projections I’ve seen at a show, ever. They were created by Ricardo Rivera of the Klip Collective, who is also responsible for the Put The Days Away video.

Twin Shadow was, without question, the standout of the night. The four-piece set flexed their musical prowess, completely reinterpreting debut LP, Forget. The set was exhilarating. So many of the tracks were taken in new musical directions – in ways I wouldn’t expect to make sense, but did, and brought new life to an already fresh sounding debut. Set favorites included: raucous opener Shooting Holes, I Can’t Wait, and Castles in the Snow.
